Promoting innovative green business practices…
A. J. Wholesale Produce is extremely excited to form a new bond with Hoop house growers. Hoop house’s use passive solar energy to heat these large dome shaped buildings, which are covered by a double thick sheet of polycarbonate plastic. The solar energy produced heats the interior which warms plants, soil, and other things inside the building faster than heat can escape the structure. The air that is warmed by the heat from interior surfaces is retained in the building by the roof and wall, and this protection from the elements allows for earlier planting and a longer growing season.
We also provide produce form a system called Aquaponics which is a sustainable food production system that combines a traditional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water). This provides both water-based gardening and fish cultivation through resourceful closed-system agriculture, and utilizes the concept of growing upward not outward.
